I was somewhat surprised to see so many bothered to turn up to our meet at Tal-Y-Braich this weekend, considering the weather forecast! We had 13 turn up, 5 of which were prospects. Unfortunately the forecast lived up to all expectations on Saturday morning. One group headed up to Cwm Idwal to see how far they could get up the Devils Kitchen, but near Llyn y Cwn they had to turn back as the wind was just too powerful! Another group decided to check out the new Beacon climbing centre and seemed thoroughly impressed! Myself, Guy Oliver, Dave Wilkinson and Chris Pearson decided to head to the Caban so walked down. After that we headed down to the Spar in Llanberis as Guy had left all of his food at home! By the time we got to the hut we were thoroughly soaked through!

The weather improved slightly improved on Sunday. The wind was still quite high, but at least the rain had stopped. This time one of the prospects joined Dave, Guy and me on a gentle walk over the 3 hills that are visible from the hut’s front door. Meanwhile the others headed back and stopped near Llangollen for two separate walks.
The weather didn’t manage to dampen everyone’s spirits, there was a great atmosphere in the hut! All in all it was a fantastic weekend, let’s just hope next time it isn’t so wet!
